I don’t know who took this photo—so if it was you, let me know and I’d love to give you credit!
It is awesome.
Chuck Palahniuk, Chelsea Cain and me, on tour, back when.
Good times!
Hope everyone is doing okay, or okay-ish, or okay-lite, staying reasonably cool.
I’m here, working on short stories with a fan and a bucket of ice, essentially, hoping Oregon will soon move into lower temperatures.
A short story is the “always versus the once,” as author and editor Rust Hills put it. A short story is a time when everything changed, as others have said. A short story is a long story compressed or distilled into a hinge point, when the trajectory of a character’s life takes a turn or becomes increasingly clarified.
A short story should expand as a reader carries it with them, becoming larger than the slim number of pages that conveyed the universe, the world, the internal and external, the depths and dimensions of human existence.
I’m working on that.
If I offered a writing class, would you be interested?
I’d much rather teach in-person courses than on-line, at this point, but I am still making decisions about content, approach, time and place. I’ve taught for over twenty years, and stepped away for two. Now I may step back in, eager to support work-in-progress!
Also, I’m here for manuscript consultation. Let me know if you might like to work one-on-one on your WIP.
Cheers,
M
Yes, do a workshop!!! ❤️
I would love to workshop. I almost moved over to PNCA for my masters just for a chance to learn from you, but the apocalypse happened when I would've made the jump.
