Hey there,
Years ago, I made a slim, hand-bound copy—the spine laced with a ribbon—of the title story from The Folly of Loving Life. Some of you still have a copy, which is amazing and warms my heart. Thank you! Huge appreciation! :)
Making that book held a spot in the landscape of my mind as I worked toward a collection of linked stories with the same title. It put the terrain aside, made space for the world of the book.
Now, I’ve put together another small, very limited-edition book. This time, it’s two essays with a few photos. I have two book-length collections of essays I’m working on, and these are the first and last from one set.
It is a labor of love.
Amazing friends jumped in and joined in the project, supporting the work! Cover photo (and perhaps a few more) by Brent Hirak! Layout and design by Jen Wick, of Fort Wick! Kind words on the back with gratitude to the one and only Stephen Graham Jones!
Read these for the snapshot of Portland, read them for the honesty and incision, or read them for Monica Drake’s precise, evocative, perfectly balanced prose — so long as you read them. They’ll stick with you longer than most novels.
The book will go to print soon. At this point, I’ve just started pre-selling.
There will be perhaps 100 or at the most 130 copies. When those are gone, that’s it…For fun and art and love and peace of mind and in celebration of making things and being here.
Hope your holidays are awesome, however you celebrate or don’t celebrate, wherever you are.

No pressure, just a thing! In case you’re interested.
You doin’ okay?
xo
Hope this project gets the attention it deserves!
Also, if in the future there are more signed paperback copies of ‘Clown Girl’ made available, would you mind letting me know/reminding me, please?
And merry Christmas!
Shucks says it doesn't ship to my area.
