I’ve included a story by a friend…and it’s a bit of a dark read, true! One might say the mood of the work is gloomy! I read it when it came out, decades ago, and I’ve never forgotten it.
Recently, I had reason to think about it again.
The world has changed, around literature in general ways…opinions, conversations, tone, tenor…
I don’t put a lot behind the paywall, but I’ll make this one a conversation for those who are onboard. I’m wondering:
What makes this story work? (I suppose there’s a previous question I’ve skimmed on by, presumed or perhaps embedded in that assertion: Does it work?)
Full disclosure, I’m friends with the author, and have been for ages. Still, I’m interested in your opinion! In the spirit of workshop, as though sharing a room with the author, a cocktail, a chat, a reading, an event…or in the spirit of a small party in a strange world…
