I offered a Zoom-based four-week Sunday morning craft seminar awhile back. We had a great time! The writers who participated in it are dear to my heart, after those Sunday morning conversations. It’s an honor to work together, and I’ve heard great things from them, since…
Now, I’m going to bring the practice back.
This time the four-week course might take a somewhat different shape, in the spirit of always asking myself what writers need to make the best work possible. Writing is a strange and satisfying path, I’d say. It’s not easy, but it is worth the time invested. Part of the work of writing is to find ways to keep the process energized.
I always aim to keep courses light and welcoming…while we stealth-dive into the deep waters, the unknown, the powerful places.
Are you up for it? A short joy ride with new friends, good friends, into that place where one’s interior world collides with galaxies, with everything…
A craft seminar is different from a workshop.
How, is it different?
In a workshop, the expectation is that writers will bring in a handful of fairly polished pages from work-in-progress and bounce their material off an audience of peers, of various levels of experience, and gain valuable feedback. I teach workshops, too. I’ve been a longstanding member of amazing workshops, and I’m a fan.
A craft seminar is about considering ideas, and how other authors have come to their writing decisions from what we see in successful work. We’ll look at published work, discuss what interests us, take time for focused writing exercises—generative writing (writing that generates ideas or passages)—and share new work at times (but no pressure). I love a craft seminar. It’s a place where we can step away from our longstanding projects and horse around with words and ideas until we find new energy on the page, then carry that energy back into any work already underway.
That’s my goal!
With twenty-five years of experience teaching at the college level, and with three books out along with so many essays and stories…I love this stuff. I have a writer’s heart. Maybe you do, too?
Join me! Join us. Ten spots, one is taken as I type these words.

Is there an idea of what time this will take place on Sunday's PST wise?
